A team of two lecturers and 24 students studying different courses at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) took part in a Youth Expedition Project (YEP) in Da Nang, Vietnam on 8-20 September 2019. This YEP was organised by NP’s Office of Service Learning (OSL) in conjunction with World Vision, and was the second in a series of Service-Learning trips that introduced students at NP to World Vision’s child-centred approach to sustainable development. The team shares some reflections and key takeaways from their experience.
Sri Lanka was never really part of my travel plan. But when World Vision created the opportunity for me to see my sponsored child, I was quick to seize it. After all those letters by snail mail, I was eager to finally be able to see my sponsored child in person and spend some quality time with her!
"This is the first trip I came back from with zero souvenirs for anyone and nothing for myself, but I am certainly richer from the experience," says Su Lin, who recently visited her sponsored child in Kirivong, Cambodia.
