Provide Life-Saving Aid to Children and Families Caught in Disaster
Devastating flash floods tore through Rasuwa and Nuwakot in northern Nepal on 26 August 2026, claiming more than 600 lives, with hundreds still missing.
Homes bridges and critical infrastructure were washed away in an instant, displacing families and cutting communities off from electricity, communication and essential services. Approximately 10,000 households require immediate humanitarian assistance, and an estimated 17,000 children have been affected by the floods.
The destruction of homes and livelihoods is expected to result in food insecurity, disrupt children’s education and increase their exposure to displacement, psychosocial distress and protection risks. Search, rescue and damage assessments are ongoing as authorities determine the full scale of the disaster.
World Vision’s Emergency Response
World Vision is responding to reach approximately 5,000 people affected by the flash floods with emergency food assistance, shelter kits, hygiene kits, dignity kits and essential support for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
World Vision has previously served the communities in the affected area following the 2015 earthquake. We are working closely with local authorities and partners to provide urgent humanitarian aid and relief to those affected. The scale and suddenness of this flood have left many families facing immense uncertainty and hardship. Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who remain missing, and communities whose homes and livelihoods have been affected. We are particularly concerned for the safety, wellbeing, and protection of children, who are often among the most vulnerable during emergencies. As rescue and relief efforts continue, World Vision International Nepal stands in solidarity with affected communities and the responders working tirelessly to save lives.
