A Ugandan child's story of triumph over adversity

World Vision has been working hard supporting activities in healthcare, education, and water and sanitation sectors.

One beneficiary of World Vision's programmes is Sunday John, a seven-year-old boy from Kiriisa Parish, Nalweyo sub-county. He is an HIV-positive orphan who lives with his grandmother.

“I love looking after him but when he falls sick, I cannot do any chores,” says his grandmother who grows cassava, sweet potatoes, beans and maize to feed her family of three, including Sunday’s 13-year-old sister.

For a long time, World Vision has provided transport for Sunday to travel to Hoima hospital to get Anti Retroviral Treatment, which is given free of charge to him. His health has now improved under World Vision's care.

World Vision also gave Sunday a goat and a pig. His grandmother is hopeful that when the animals give birth, she’ll be able  to sell the offspring and earn some money to take better care of Sunday.

World Vision believes that all children deserve life in all its fullness.

Uganda, a country also known as the 'Pearl of Africa' has endured much suffering in recent history. Uganda's children in particular are in desperate need of improved opportunities to help them escape the cycle of poverty and have a brighter future.

Many children like Sunday are in need of help. Sponsor a child today and help the child to reach his or her dreams.

Alternatively, you can help children and youths in Singapore who are living with HIV/AIDS or whose parents are afflicted with the disease to continue their education through World Vision Singapore's One Life Fund.
